ABOUT OUR PROJECTS
WE EDUCATE - Growing the Next Generation of Green Thumbs

From young campers discovering the magic of pollinators to university students designing tomorrow’s sustainable gardens, we believe in planting the seeds of knowledge early and often.

  • Toronto Botanical Garden (formerly the Civic Garden Centre): This lush urban oasis began with our members’ vision and dedication. In the late 1950’s, with no official garden centre in the city, the Club successfully lobbied Metro Parks to create Toronto’s first Civic Garden Centre at Leslie and Lawrence. By 2004, with a new name and a new home, the Toronto Botanical Garden officially opened—planting the roots of what would become a thriving hub for horticulture, education and community. It now flourishes as a centre for learning and inspiration—a living classroom where every leaf teaches something new.

  • Scholarships & Camps: We fund five post-secondary scholarships each year at four leading schools in Southern Ontario. These include Humber College (Etobicoke), Fanshawe College (London, Ontario), University of Guelph (Guelph, Ontario), and the University of Toronto - John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. We also open the garden gates for children from underserved communities, giving them the chance to explore nature hands-on at TBG Summer Nature Camps.

When we teach someone to grow, we teach them to care—for the earth, for others, and for their own well-being. To learn more click here.

WE CREATE - Designing Wonder, One Petal at a Time

Some projects start with a sketch. Others begin with a dream. Ours often start with both—and a community of passionate volunteers ready to dig in.

  • Canada Blooms: Co-founded by the Garden Club in 1997, this festival was a floral love letter to the city. Each spring, it invited thousands to experience the artistry of garden design, floral creativity, and environmental innovation. Unfortunately, with the Covid pandemic abruptly shutting down the Canada Blooms show on opening day, this eagerly anticipated spring tradition went into hibernation. Attempts by the Garden Club of Toronto and Landscape Ontario to revive the show in 2023 were not successful.

  • Spring Blooms Show (2025): After the silence of the pandemic, we brought colour back—opening the doors to a public floral show that captivated hearts and reminded everyone of nature’s enduring joy.

Creating is about more than planting—it’s about dreaming boldly and sharing beauty generously.

WE TRANSFORM - Turning Urban Corners into Living Legacies

Look closely across Toronto, and you’ll find traces of our work quietly flourishing gardens that offer peace, pride, and a little magic to all who pass through.

  • Environmental Initiatives: At Humber Arboretum, meadows sway with native wildflowers. Along the Highway of Heroes, trees stand as silent tributes to those who served.

  • Teaching & Edible Gardens: At Allan Gardens and the Toronto Botanical Garden, we’ve built vibrant teaching gardens where students learn with their hands in the soil—and communities harvest not just food, but a sense of belonging.

  • Landscaped Landmarks: From Casa Loma’s gardens on the hillside behind the building, and the gardens at Spadina House to the Meadoway ’s wild trails, our projects elevate public spaces into places of quiet delight and civic pride.

  • Community Sanctuaries: We’ve cultivated rooftop gardens for seniors and created sensory spaces for the visually impaired, proving that even the smallest patch of earth can become a sanctuary.

Each transformation reminds us: gardens don’t just change landscapes. They change lives.
